Red-tailed Bumble Bee
Bombus lapidarius
Length 23mm

A large and familiar species. Appears all-black except for hairs at tip of abdomen which are bright orange-red. After hibernation, female emerges in May and looks for burrow in which to build nest. Common and widespread except in N.

Just a bee, but he looked so good on that flower that I thought he deserved a shot. Hope you like it.

A common subject, perhaps, but very well captured and presented. Great clarity and depth of field. Pleasing composition. A note telling us more about the bee, the flower, or both would be welcome.
