Red Rock Canyon

is a narrow valley that lies just about 15 miles west of downtown Las Vegas and is one of the most scenic places to visit in Southern Nevada. 'Red Rock' as it is known to the people who actually live in Las Vegas, is so called because of the striking red colored sandstone formations found throughout this small valley. The layered streaks of the embedded red sandstone strata can be seen from almost anywhere in Las Vegas.

While the tops of the peaks are visible from the Las Vegas Valley, Red Rock Canyon is nestled below them and out of site from much of Las Vegas.

The red sandstone that distinguishes it is part of the same geologic formation, the Navaho Formation, found in the Valley of Fire, Zion National Park and throughout the Southwest United States and Southern Nevada.

The contrast of the red sandstone layered through the gray limestone is impressive against the sheer cliff faces of - as high as - 600 meters.

The layout of the small Red Rock valley, its mountains, cliffs and hills show the typical Great Basin north-south orientation.

Hi Alan
What a super landscape with that road disappearing around the corner to some unknown destiny. I must admit, I am a sucker for these landscapes with a road in it and yours are great. I just love it.
The composition and POV are excellent and the colours are stunning. (The polarizer did the trick.) The blue sky and the thin line of red rocks are breathtaking. The DOF is spot-on with amazing details and the exposure was perfectly managed.
Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot

Hi Alan, amazing landscape; sharpness, colors, light, composition, everything is excellent !

Hi ALan,
Excellent photo and a great note with the photo. POV and DOF are perfect and the road is leading me right into the photo. The polarizer filter has created this awesome color and a beautiful sky. Als a good job on the PP work.

Salut alan
c'est un très joli paysage que tu nous envoies avec cette route qui longe ce canyon .La composition est très belle et jolies sont les couleurs.
Bravo et merci

Hi Alan,
Excellent landscape shot. Great colors in that red sandstone. Great blue sky backround. Overall composition looks superb. Your workshop on my shot from there was very good. I blew the sky exposing for the early light on the rocks. I have since fixed that in my own portfolio.
