With the new snowfall I decided to go to my neighborhood golf course to look for some owls. I didn't find any, but as I was walking on the snow covered fairway this handsome Red-tailed Hawk sailed overhead and really gave me the "eye". I liked this image because it showed this particular hawk's colorful and distinctive markings on it's underwings and belly.

There are many different versions of the Red-tailed Hawk through out the US... the Western, Eastern,Southwestern,Krider's,Harlan's, and all the different stages of plumage in each type. The Red-tailed Hawk is the buteo that all others are compared to. It is large and conspicuous and can be seen perched in trees along highways quite often. I know I have seen them along the highways sitting in the trees or in the median strip. This hawk hunts from either a perch or by kiting. Because of it size and coloring the Red-tailed is a definite favorite of mine. I don't think I could ever take enough photos of this raptor.

Does he really speak French? Nice shot Lesley. Oh yes, 30 seconds exposure??

You weren't wearing a furry hat, were you? You were certainly being checked out ;-))
Great stop-action capture, good details on the wings and body, a funny pose and a beautiful blue sky - who could wish for more?

Another great picture Lesley, i wish i had taken it. I have never been lucky enough to get a shot like this.
The hawk is beautiful and his expression is one of indignation at the idea of you taking his picture.
Good note.
Great work as always.

Very good action shot Lesley.

Fantastic capture Lesley. Excellent sharpness and wonderful colours in his plumage - he is a real beauty and well set off against a clear blue sky. I was out there too today and saw buzzard and kestrel but without shooting range:-(. Happy New Year.

Ahhh....a very nice shot with lots of air for the hawk to fly into, thus composition is excellent. The subject is very sharp and the pose is very good; certainly is giving you the eye. I read the comment on the shutter speed, 1/3200 sound much better. A classic shot on that beautiful winter-blue background sky.

I like the way it is looking at you, Lesley.
Your picture is sharp as well for a flight shot. You gave to this raptor all the place it needed for comfortably put a glimpse on you.
A very descriptive post: picture and note.
Thanks a lot.

He was spying out your equipment! I know, I would be doing the same :)

This is a beautiful inflight shot and I like the eye contact a lot. The sharpness is good too.

Excellent work and thanks for posting. May you and your family have a wonderful and prosperous new year.

Amazing look "Ó toi" Lesley. Probably because it's you; they never look at me that way. Excellent shot with great sky color.
By the way, if it's MOI? his name is: Buse Ó queue rousse en franšais.
