An Australian Emperor (Hemianax papuensis) in flight. The species is common throughout the Australian continent, though getting close to one is another matter. I found this one patrolling over some reeds in a large pond. I sat on the bank and waited for the dragonfly to come back. It took a while, perhaps 20 minutes, but eventually he got close enough for me to take some shots. I was quite happy with the result.

this is a very good in-flight shot of a dragonfly, you should be happy with the result. Not easy even if they stand and hover.
Very good details with fine details, nice natural colours.

Hello Chris
This is an excellent capture of very beautiful Hemianax papuensis with a wonderful sharpness of focus, perfect exposure natural colours. you greatly frozen its wing movements. I attent that the dragonfly masterly tucked its legs (landing apparatus) close to its thorax so as not to disturb its general aerodynamical shape. Sometimes, Nature does reveal some astonishing secrets...
thanks for sharing, have a nice weekend.
