One of my favourite birds is the White-browed Woodswallow (Artamus superciliosus). This species occurs across the Australian continent, but is highly nomadic, moving thousands of kilometres across the country in search of ideal conditions. The species generally occur in small flocks of up to 100, but when conditions are just right, flocks of several thousand can be found. In southeastern Australia they often invade after large bushfires have swept through an area, whilst in the arid interior of the continent, they invade areas that received flooding rains.
This is a male, the female are much plainer in colour.
Taken at Featherdale Wildlife Park in western Sydney, which arguably has the best collection of Australian birds in captivity.

Hi Chris,
He is certainly a colorful and beautiful bird. The spot on exposure has the colors and detail in the plumage looking superb. Nice control on the DOF sperates him from the backround. A very well composed and framed shot.

Beau specimen, belle pose. Dommage que la tete soit un peu surexposee. Rien de bien grave. Bravo

Hi Chris,
a very nice picture of this beautiful bird from your camera.
The plumage are lovely and smooth. The shallow DOF is nice, the bird is isolated from the BG and the details are also good. I like the the composition and the POV too.
I't some OE part's on the bird, but thats a minor nit.
Beautiful work.

Hello Chris,
Superb shot with all details clearly seen. Composition, pov, dof are great. Very well done.

Wow... perfect portrait of the wonderful bird my friend...

Hello Chris,
Surely is one of your favorites birds, if I live in Australia maybe think the same.
The close up is excellent, colours are incredible nice. I like the blurred dry graspy BG.
Terrific post

I love the composition here, and like you, I love Woodswallows. Great shot.

On my monitor, this photo has a distinct blue cast. The head should be grayish black, not blue black and the eyeline should be white, not bluish white. I tried my hand at removing the color cast in my workshop of the photo. I don't think mine is perfect yet, but it seems a bit closer to real color.

That is a very beautiful bird, Chris.
I really love the colors... very subtle.
Very sharp details that are well exposed, captured in a great POV and presented in a very pleasant composition.
TFS. : )

Hi Chris

Beautiful coloured plumage on this charachter. Good pose and perefcet low POV. A little 'blown' on the white. Great OOF BG. :-)

Hello Chris,
of the great things on TN, to meet and learn about all kinds of birds and wildlife from around the world. This is another great example, this is a new one to me. Very well captured and composed. The colors are wonderful and the details nice and sharp, the bird stand out so well from the OOF BG.

I have to say composition, sharpness and details are great. did I say great composition??? LOL very awesome. The only thing I can see wrong on the pic is exposure. Its a bit over exposed causing the colors to be a bit washed out and a bit of chromatic abbrasion around the woodswallow. If you had dropped the exposure a notch or two it may have drawn out a bit of richer contrasty color. Still very beautiful.

Very cool lookin' bird Chris and nicely done.

Hi Chris:

Thank you for your comment on my photograph.
You have captured this bird is a pensive mood-what is this bird thinking?

Very interesting bird. As a whole very good one. Compo, sharpness, pose, POV and details - all are very good. Only one small problem that Gert already mentioned.
