you have captured it just at the right moment! wonderful timing! Great details and DOV. only that if the sun is shining on it better then it would be perfect. but this cant be helped. i think your cropping is ok. i think the eye looks weird too. looks like it was drawn on the head. thanks for showing!

Great close up picture of a quite happy pelican. Good sharpness and colors.
I see you have the right equipment for this type of photography.. the 70-200 f/4 L is a great lens.
