Taken today and the only good shot out of eight taken over ninety minutes as I waited standing against a tree whilst facing an area where I heard and then noticed two males and one female darting in and out of cover. They would stay in this small area less than 30 seconds, then disappear, only to appear 15 minutes later. I could have taken a few more shots, but on autofocus, by the time the camera focused on the bird, or didn't, the bird had vanished. I gave up on auto and this shot was taken on manual mode- also difficult with such small and nervous birds which give you a few seconds to react.
I have been trying to take a decent shot of this superb little bird for a number of years. Today I was lucky as it had in its beak a little berry from a nearby bush.

Wikipedia gives the following information:
Superb Fairy-wrens are predominantly insectivorous. They eat a wide range of small creatures (mostly insects such as ants, grasshoppers, shield bugs, flies, weevils and various larvae) as well as small quantities of seeds, flowers, and fruit.[39][44] Their foraging, termed 'hop-searching', occurs on the ground or in shrubs that are less than two metres high. Because this foraging practice renders them vulnerable to predators, birds tend to stick fairly close to cover and forage in groups. During winter, when food may be scarce, ants are an important 'last resort' food, constituting a much higher proportion of the diet. Nestlings, in contrast to adult birds, are fed a diet of larger items such as caterpillars and grasshoppers.[

Dear Claudio
well done, keep trying
He is obviously on his way to the nest.
Observe where he likes to perch, what time of day it is, you will find him normaly in the same area at the same time of the day if not disturbed. Take the shot sitting down if possible as you are less a threat. These can help in getting a result you are happy with. I know how hard it is! just have a look at mine.

Zdravo Klaudio!
Another good shot! Nice picture! You have wonderful colorful birds there in Australia. You're lucky!

Hello Claudio,

This is such a beautiful specie that I see for the first time I think. What a colorful fellow! You captured him in a good pose and action. I wish that you could have been closer to see more details on this lovely fellow but the picture remains a good one with natural exposure and beautiful composition. Thanks,

Hello Klaudio,
Marvellous capture of a Superb Fairy Wren. These little birds are not easy to photograph: I tried several times during our stay in Australia a couple of years ago but didn't get a good shot. You not only managed good sharpness and fine BG, but caught him with a berry in its mouth and in a fine pose!
Well done and thanks for sharing this one!
Regards, Ivan
