[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Allied Rock Wallaby (Petrogale assimilis) is a small kangaroo standing about half a metre tall and weighing around 5kg. As the name suggests they are generally confined to rocky, boulder-strewn environments, where they shelter during the day in caves and under rocky ledges. They can also readily climb up trees with sloping trunks. They are generally nocturnal, but at Mt. Elliott they came out to feed on the lush grasses in the camping ground in the late afternoon. This gave us excellent opportunity to enjoy this scarcely observed mammal, even in the wet.
They have thick shaggy fur and very long eyelashes to protect them against the stiff shrubland they live in. Despite their small size, they move rapidly through the rough terrain when disturbed, their long tail acting as an effective counterbalance.
Unlike other rock wallaby species, this species is gregarious and forms long-lived pair bonds. Breeding can occur at any time through the year and the young remain in the mothers pouch for around seven months.

Great shot, very interesting. I would say framed to tight on the left side, but then you would have missed the tails.... Hard choise.

Nice shot Chris, it's great to see this wildlife from down under..Good details and light. Like my last bird post, sometimes that darn tail thing can be shall we say "problematic"?? Great note, well done!

Hello Chris,

What a wonderful capture. This is cute. I like the off centered composition and the details are very good. Colors are warm. I just think the crop/frame is a little too tight. On the right you cut his tail and also above his head a little more space would have been better. A very nice post nevertheless. TFS!
