not so many images of resting darters here on tn, le long tail is almost more outstanding than the neck. surroundings a bit unnatural but the bird itself is great

Great composition, I like the diagonal line made from the wood.
Also it's a sharp picture with the perfect DOF

The face and pose of this Darter turned sideways displays the shape and profile of the bird so well. It is a pretty bird with beautiful assortment of colours. This is a lovely close-up, with fine detail. The roughly, but rather beautiful feathers of this bird adds a special touch to this photo. This is a lovely presentation. Thanks for sharing.

Excellent details in the plumage, and the bird gives a great
The wooden pier (?) makes a fine diagonal in the composition, and that pointed yellow beak really stands out...
Perfect DoF makes the bird stand out in a 3D appearance!

Interesting and beautiful macro.
I like very much the colors and contrast them.
Have a pleasant weekend,
John, great shot. This closely resembles our Double-crested Cormorant. Nice job. Have a great day. Bill

Really like this one too mate, excellent detail in the plumage, love the diagonal line of the wooden pier, even the nail heads are popping up, and the blend between the OOF water and the pier work really well, nice work.
Cheers Rick :)

The birdlife made a much better subject than the boathouse, eh! I think the VR lens worked very well for you here - those nails sticking up from the wooden planks, and the bird's toenails and plumage, are superbly focused. The bokeh is pretty good, too. I think the Aussie version of the darter is more impressive than the American bird, too.

Hi John, Good DOF really makes this large bird stand out well from his surroundings. The clarity and outline of the subject is excellent. I like the way he stands to keep the tail feathers free. TFS. Murray.

You're still alive and well, I see :) I have not been here in a long time. Mostly on TE, lately some problem viewing the images. So I thought I revisit the site.
The photo is good in quality as always and a pleasure to see your images again. Will try to visit more.
