A kookaburra is a kingfisher bird only found in Australia and New Guinea. The name derives from the Aboriginal word "guuguubarra" which refers to its uncanny laugh. There are 4 species of kookaburra: the Rufous-bellied Kookaburra (Dacelo gaudichaud), Spangled Kookaburra (Dacelo tyro), Blue-winged Kookaburra (Dacelo leachii) and Laughing Kookaburra (Dacelo novaeguineae). The kookas photographed here are of the Blue Winged species.

I took this photo as it reminded me of 3 of my TE friends: Santo (Skippy007), Alfred (Alftreks) and Bill (Trekks) cackling and giggling away like 3 naughty school boys.

I feel blessed living in Australia where most mornings the call of these magnificent birds can be heard through my bedroom window.

A warm welcome to TN, Lisa.
This is indeed a funny picture. These three kookaburras do have an impish look on them,
as though they are up to some mischief.
Great moment captured as they are all lined up on the railing.
Good exposure on the white plumage.
TFS. : )

Welcome to TN, Lisa. Your shot here is a very good one and I agree to Manyee that you got the exposure on the chest plumage just right.

Thanks for sharing and hoping to see more pictures from you in future,

Richa

Ciao Lisa, che piacere vederti qui, benvenuta su TN:)
Bel trio in ottima posa, composizione piacevole, ottima nitideza, buona profonditÓ di campo, gran bell'inizio, ora aspetto di vedere una farfalla:)
Bravissima
Ciao Silvio

Hallo Lisa
Welcome to Trek Nature, I trust you will have a most pleasant and educational journey on the site. Luciano is a great guy and it is great that he introduced you to the site. A round of applause to him. Your threesome Kookaburras is lovely birds and you have captured them well, especially the one in the centre. The details on this specific one is well focused and seen whereas the two on the side is a bit soft and almost blends in with the surrounding and backdrop. I rather like it this way, keeping the attention and eye on the one in the middle, appreciating its details. I very much like the upright pose, displaying the lovely chest feathers and some details of the paws. Thanks for sharing. Kind regards.

start with a nice image, the beautiful three birds from fine POV, the DOF works only in the intermediate, but the colors are good with fine details!

Hello Lisa, and welcome to TN. This is a good start to shooting on the natural side. You've presented these 3 very well on their angled ledge. Colour and detail is good with good focus. I like the use of your depth of field here with the farther one just starting to fade out in the background. You must have been pretty close to capture these guys like this with a 105. I agree with you about their call. This is one I really miss.

Say hi to the "school boys" for me.

Thanks, John

Hi Lisa, Good to see you on TN. Kookaburras are certainly one of the most easily recognised, and loved, of all Australian wild life. Here your POV is good and the sharpness is excellent. TFS. Murray

Ciao Lisa,
Grazie e complimenti
Ciao Maurizio

hello Lisa

a beautiful photo of these Australian birds, a very fine POV
with the way the birds are diagonally framed on the photo
that gives dynamism to the image, fine focus sharpness
and details, i love the way the background is blurred with showing details,

TFS
