[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The Little Wattlebird (Anthochaera chrysoptera) is one of only 2 Wattlebirds in the South West of Western Australia, also inhabiting the south-east coast and Tasmania. It is as agressive to smaller bird species as its larger cousin, the Red Wattlebird, but rarer and lacks the 'wattle' a piece of coloured flesh on the cheek. The sub-species here is 'lunata', characterised by white streaks on the sides of the throat.
This bird was very wary, trying to get some nectar from a large Agave americana in full bloom. You can see the flowers buds at the back of the bird. Not an easy shot with a hand-held Sigma 150-500mm weighing a tonne!

Hello Odile,
A fantastic shot, especially considering you were using a shutter speed of 1/100 and the camera was hand held. An attractive specimen showing very good detail and beautiful colors. I like the intense look it has on it's face. Well done!!
