The Brush-tailed Rock Wallaby (Petrogale penicillata) was once a fairly common species through eastern Australia. It has declined markedly through the 20th century and is now classified as endangered, though the reason for its decline is unclear.
As its name suggests, it lives in rocky environments, mainly in deep gorges along the Great Dividing Range south of Brisbane to southern New South Wales. The species is largely nocturnal, not becoming active until dusk. They live in small groups amongst boulder-strewn cliffs with caves, crevices and ledges. They feed mostly on grasses and herbs, but will eat fresh foliage from some shrubs.
We found this at dusk near Dangar Falls.

Amazing long tail on this critter. It almost seems to be posing for you. The foliage in the background is unusual - it appears oversharpened, but may simply have that appearance since the wallaby appears to be appropriatly sharp.

Excellent capture, and the compo draws the eye effectively to that long bushy tail. Well done!
Subject seems a bit soft versus the BG though FG is sharp -wonder if this might be due to sharpening, as such multitude of branches sometimes take to sharpening better than other parts of a picture, probably due to highlights on branches.
