This is a great one, Chris. Superb photo quality. It's limpid, beautifully sharp and colored. Very good framing too. The light is so well displayed, and so naturally, that the cap textures really come out on the screen as if it was in 3D. A favorite!
Very god macro Chris.
Great colors, DOF, details and light.
It you have 20,000 macro fugis, you have some job to do, I'll wait for the rest.;-)
Very good work.

An excellent post. Just beautiful. I love the shape colour and composition you got here. I am also very happy my high-tech diffuse flash helped you with this beauties. A perfect use of a F:3.2, and POV with the small ones at the base.
And remember, several folds on paper, adjust levels... put some distance between the paper and the flash, the result is very different, better sometimes with middle distance macros.
I will post some more soon with this technique. TFP.

Beaufiful and it looks poisonous too, great exposre as well. You can use tissue paoer too as a diffuser, or even use it it get some extralight onto the subject - just make sure it is not in the frame.
Thanks for the humour with the secretary, I had a quiet chucle about the cobra.
Will you see other strange mushrooms if you eat these? ;-)
Nice composition and colours. Sharpness and DOF is good as well.

Very colorful, and technically superb. Was the aperture really f/3.2, or f/32 to get such depth of field in a macro? Very sharp - the little insects (midges?) add a sense of size to the fungus itself.

Excellent close-up Chris!
Focus and exposure couldn't be better. Artistically, the composition is well balanced. But best of all is the soft light and the colors contrast. The fungi really stand out of the picture. TFS

Hi Chris,
The reason of choosing this old post of You for today is now, when Steve (LordPotty) is in an inactive period I miss fungi pics from Your region.
This is an exceptional photo of the tropical specie Leucocoprinus birnbaumii (Clive was right), which lives in Europe only in glass-houses. Local literature says it was already found a few times in my home country, too. Fantastic details, cap texture, colors and sharpness. Very clever use of flash. A real stunner image. Bravo. A favorite for me, too.
20.000 macro fungi in Oz... Although Hungary's much, much smaller, something like Tasmania state or a bit bigger, we have ca. 3.000 only. I hope to find this specie once, in a glass-house, but the chance is very small.
Best wishes, László

Hi Chris, Nice photo but I think you have the wrong name Cyrtotrama asprata is a small fungus that grows on wood and does not have a ring (annulus) on the stalk. I believe you have is Leucocoprinus birnbaumii. This fungus is often found growing in pot plants or gardens rich in organic material. It nice to see it in a more natural habitat. I think I might have cloned out the dirt on the caps
