[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hoverflies have a characteristic flight pattern- hovering in one spot, moving suddenly forwards or sideways, then hovering again.

Hoverflies are members of a fly family that have evolved as wasp and bee mimics. They are important as pollinators of plants.

Hoverfly mimicry of wasps can include having a warning colouration of yellow and black, a narrow waist like a wasp and even the ability to mimic the stinging action of a wasp, by pushing the tip of the abdomen into your fingers if they are caught and held. However they do not sting and are quite harmless.

Hi Chi, This photo shows great detail of the Hoverfly with incredible depth of field and colour.

Well done, and thanks, John

Hi Chi,

This is a wonderful capture. The DOF coupled with the great BG makes it great.

Good work.

TFS, Kiran.

Hi Chi

Congrats on a well executed in-flight shot of this tiny insect! :-)

Hi Chi

As always this is stunning work from you. What a capture of this little fly zooming along in mid-flight. I like the movement you've captured in the wings, even at F/800 and this just shows how fast those little wings are beating.

The DOF is perfect and the colours are just spectacular. The BG is amazing and the exposure was spot on.

Excellent work and TFS.

Amazing focus on the eye in spite of this being a high shutter speed shot, Chi.
In addition to that, marvellous perspective and authentic natural colours.
TFS and bye.

Hi Chi

A splendid in-flight macro!! What a magnificent combination!
The details and magnification are surprising and teh fact that it was flying all this time is even more impressive.
Lovely colors and light, excellent POV and DOF, too.
Bravo and TFS

Hi Chi.
You have solved a very difficult task to capture such active insect in flight. Very nice DOF and POV, colours and exposure. But I would risk to apply f/stop 1/1600 and ISO 800, to increase sharpness of the insect and to froze it better. But it is easier to say, than to do. My best regards and compliments. TFS,

Ricardo

Almost perfect capture in flight Chi... I believe that it only lacked some depth to capture the entirety of the insect in focus.
Great point of view, with intense colors, well saturated and a perfect contrast with the diffuse bottom.
The illumination and the framing complete an excellent composition.
A cordial greeting from Buenos Aires... Ricardo

Hello Chi,
one of your fascinating in flight captures of hoverflies I really love to look at. The head excellently on focus, the necessary motion blur captured with well decided shutter speed - not too short, not too long. Marvellous soft colours. Dense atmosphere.
With thanks, and best regards,
