I wonder Janice...do these creatures act completely out of instinct? Are these the kind of creatures which have very small areas which we call a brain...hence as science thinks no room for intellect of any kind..although science still studies these things at quite some length.
Very well overall portrait of this particular species...Fine lighting. They are similar to blackbirds...unless there is a sheen, it is hard to put any drama into the colour, but that is no fault of photography..it is a part of nature:-)

Hello dear Janice,
You offer us an impressive portrait for this strange animal.
The "+++" : composition, great subject, POV, sharpness, DOF, exposure, instructive complementary note...
The "-" : distracting lines in BG...
Congratulations and kia ora,

Maybe I do not comment too many of your pictures, ut I really like to watch them. This picture is also very interesting.
I like: nice POV (very good profile & close-up), interesting colouration (almost black!), good details and DOF, clarity, and composition. And of course an interesting note.
TFS this unique presentation!

A lovely shot, Janice.I do fall ion the category that finds these creepy..But I also realise the importance of these reptiles in the chain of things..
I do wonder though, the slow reproductive cycle, there has to be a reason why that's happened, right?
Thanks for sharing this shot, and the wonderful note, janice!

A fine capture of this very interesting reptile. I just don't know where to fit it into my series of themes on reptiles as it is not a lizard, but a family on its own. I presume this must be its standard, non-breeding colours as other photos I have seen of the same species showed it with rather brightish yellow colours on the head and neck with a black bar running through the eye and down the neck.
I like the POV and the composition is great. Excellent details shown as well.
Good work and TFS.

The capture is very nice and I like the staring eye catch. The focus is pretty spot on and supported by good note. Well done TFS Ganesh

I have never seen such a animal like this. Yes, of course on Discovery Channel or Animal Planet, but this is a fine capture of this very interesting reptile. And that taken by a photographer of TN. Chapeau. I like the POV. The composition is great. DOF and BG are oké. Great eyecontact. Thanks for sharing and your interesting notes. Greetings and TFS Bob

I have just now this great capture of this living fossil, which I teach it my students in vertebrate biology lesson. It represents one of four orders of Reptilia, but up to now I have not seen. The post also great with focus, nice details, especially on eye, POV and composition. It is a great portraite of famous Tuatara. Thanks. best wishes
