This guy was mighty peeved when another Tui tried to land in his space. He ruffled his feathers and made an almighty noisy fuss about the whole deal. Love the tongue poking out. Obviously his mother never told him it's rude! Thanks for looking.

Parson Bird
The Tui (Prosthemadera novaeseelandiae) is an endemic passerine bird of New Zealand, one of the largest members of the diverse honeyeater family.

The name Tui is from the Maori language name tūī and is the formal common name. The plural is simply 'Tui', following Māori usage. The English name, Parson Bird, has fallen into disuse but came about because at first glance the Tui appears completely black except for a small tuft of white feathers at its neck and a small white wing patch, causing it to resemble a parson in religious attire.

On closer inspection it can be seen—and from the photo—that Tui have faded browner patches on the back and flanks, a multicoloured iridescent sheen that varies with the angle from which the light strikes them, and a dusting of small, white-shafted feathers on the back and sides of the neck that produce a lacy collar.

Hi Pam,
what a wonderful scene you caught here. We don't see Tui birds often on TN. You obviously know how to deal with the difficult problem of black colour. The composition is very good. Extremely well done Pam. Thanks for presenting the picture.

Hi Pam,
You've caught this Tui in a grteat moment.
Amazing how scruffy these beautiful birds can look when they're in the middle of a call.
Excellent capture!

12 out of 10 here Pam.
Absolutely wonderful catch of this bird!!
It's amazing to see the different colours coming through his plumage. I love his white bib and his vocal attitude. They can be quite obnoxious when someone invades their territory - well captured hre MF

PS Wish it was my pic!!

Great! Love the white feather in the front! Great pose and detail here! Kudos! Cheers, Klaus

Hello Pam,
I make a little tour on TN for my friends and I discover a Canon EOS 1D Mark III, the same as Howard. The 2 masters of TN with professional equipment.
The "+++" : composition, nice subject, pose and tui attitude, POV, sharpness, colors, light & exposure, sky in BG, instructive complementary note...
The "-" : nothing...
Bravo my friend and thanks for sharing,

Hi Pam, this is a great action moment to catch, he sure is making a statement. Very well exposed on the blacks, interesting plumage. The Tui looks good and sharp against the blue sky. Nicely composed.
