New Zealand Dotterel

The New Zealand dotterel is a threatened (Category B) species endemic to New Zealand. The population consists of two small groups, one in the North Island and the other on Stewart Island. The total population is less than 1500 individuals. The preferred environment of these birds is sandy beaches, usually near river mouths where food is plentiful. Dotterels eat a wide variety of food, most of which is found in the intertidal area.

The decline of the New Zealand dotterel is due to several factors, but in particular, introduced predators such as cats, stoats and ferrets. Because their nesting areas are popular with beach goers, many dotterel nests also get trampled by people, dogs, and trail bikes.

Hi Pam,
I like the simple composition here , the feathers blowing in the wind and the details are amazing in this picture. 1500 nos… ooof , its highly endangered , hope it will survive the test of time and human onslaught.

Beautiful picture Pam. Sharp, well exposed and well composed.

Hello Pam,
Beautiful this shot of the dottorel.
I like a lot the ilumination, with the shadow projected, but there is still enought light to iluminate the head and the eye of the bird.
DOF makes the sand get OOF slowly...
I like the composition also,
Congratulations and thanks for share,
JM

Hello Pam,
Fine capture of this rare wader. One hopes that the conservation measures taken are sufficient to protect the species.
You present this dotterel in a sharp, well composed shot, the side light making it interesting not only photographically but showing the purpose of the ruffled feathers to take up the warmth of the morning sun.

Hello Pam.
A very nice and warm picture of this threatened bird. Again an example of the destroying nature of us people.

Wow, Pam. You sure managed a close-up shot of this shorebird, which I imagine has a tendency to scamper quickly away at human approach. I have a very hard time catching the sandpipers-type birds on our beaches. They move so fast.
Great POV of him looking out at sea.
Sharp details presented in perfect light.

Otra primorosa captura Pam con bello punto de vista, mostrando no sólo la silueta del ave con total claridad, agudeza y colorido, sino también su sombra que colabora con la estética de la composición.
Me agrada el marco elegido y el recorte de la misma.

Another dainty capture Pam with beautiful point of view, not only showing the silhouette of the bird with total clarity, sharpness and coloring, but also their shade that collaborates with the aesthetics of the composition.
I like the elected frame and the cropping of the same one.
A cordial greeting from Buenos Aires... Ricardo
