Austrolestes colensonis

Family: Lestidae

The Blue Damselfly (Maori: Kekewai) is the largest of New Zealands six species of damselfly.
The male is a brilliant blue and black, whereas the female is a bright green or yellow colour.
They can also change colour according to weather conditions, to help regulate their body temperature.
This one is a female on a hot summers day.
They can often be found in grasslands and estuaries, particularly near still or slow moving water.
They are also known by the Maori name Tiemiemi which refers to the bobbing up and down behaviour of males.

This shot was taken in Pirongia back in 2005 with my old 2 mpxl Panasonic Lumix FZ2
I wasn't sure whether or not to sharpen it one last time as the background was getting a bit noisy, but I did anyway. Please excuse the ghost image.
Hope you like the shot anyway.

Cheers, Steve

Hi Steve,
The subject is wonderful. Very sharp and good colors. But in my view the BG is a little distracting. Anyway a nice capture. Thanks a lot for sharing.
