Huge Fungi
 |
|
[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note |
These huge fungi growing on the trunk of this old Tawa are Ganoderma applanatum.
The most common of the large bracket fungi, these hard woody fungi can grow for many years and have been used for carving and drawing on.
They are sometimes known as 'the artists konk'.
I took this photo some time ago on Mount Pirongia in the North Island, but only just rediscovered it in my files.
Hope you like it.

Hi Steve,
Unique looking fungi on a unique looking tree. You normally think of fungi as very delicate, but it sounds like these are quite different. A dark and moody composition. I like the very low POV here.

Hi Steve,
Look like people can use this fungi to step on for climbing the tree. Great shot. Nice low angle shot, nice PoV.

Hiya Steve, interesting shot, good trunk and fungi detail, like how you have composed this shot, framing it with light, a touch grainy, nice capture!

Hi Steve. Very good POV to emphasise this fungi growth on that beautiful NZ tree. Good clarity and colours. TFS. Murray.
Hi Steve,
Great shot and nice low POV. I have an image like this on my HDD, once I'll upload it... Nice to see woody fungi of NZ, too, tfs. Best regards, László
