Danaus plexippus. Monarch Butterfly.
This beautifull Monarcc had just hatched on a cold damp autumn morning and was having a problem to find somewhere warm and sunny to dry himself out.
He is a male the thickened black vien on the inner wings denotes this and is the scent gland.
These Butterflies measure upto 100 mm across. The female lays her eggs on the underside of the host plant leaves usually a Swan plant.
The egg takes about 1 week to hatch then will live as a caterpillar for about 3 weeks and grow to about 55mm long it is whiteish with numerous black and yellow stripes. After 3or4 weeks it spins a complex chrysalis where it develops for 10 or more days before emerging as this beautifull Butterfly.

Hi David,
Nice POV, great sharp and correct exposure. I Think colors are a bit over saturated. Nice species. TFS

Hello David, nice to see the water droplets as well as the well captured Monarch.
Good environmental photo.
Regards Les.
Hi David,
Probably a little oversaturated, but without doubt a well composed, interesting image with great contrast and effective shallow depth of field. I like it.
Best regards, László
