Cook strait seperating the north and south island of New Zealand.Extending from the Tasmin sea to the Pacific ocean., is about 23 Km at its narrrowist point and about an average of 128m deep.Both shores are lined with steep cliffs and the south island is deeply embayed.Trecherous currents and fierce storms present serious hazard to navigation.
