Post process on my laptop, therefore not 100% sure colour and sharpness are okay but best I could do under the circumstances. Thanks for looking.

Spotted Shag

The Spotted Shag or Parekareka (Phalacrocorax punctatus, also occasionally called the Spotted Cormorant) is an attractive species of the family Phalacrocoracidae found only in New Zealand. Currently classified as Phalacrocorax punctatus, is sufficiently different in appearance from typical members of the genus Phalacrocorax that it has in the past been placed in a separate genus, Stictocarbo, along with one other species, the similar Pitt Island Shag.

Compared with typical cormorants, the Spotted Shag is a light-coloured bird. Its back is brown. Its belly is pale blue-grey (often appearing white), and the white continues up the sides of the neck and face, but the throat and the top of the head are dark blue-green. In the mating season, it has an obvious double crest. There is little sexual dimorphism.

Spotted Shags feed at sea, often in substantial flocks, taking its prey from mid-water rather than the bottom. It is likely that pilchard and anchovy are important prey species.

Spotted Shags nest on cliffs. In the South Island, they are particularly readily observed around Banks Peninsula; there is a large nesting colony immediately south of the city of Christchurch.

The Spotted Shag was featured on a 60-cent New Zealand postage stamp first issued in 1988, in a series devoted to native birds.

Bonjour Pam!

Cet oiseau est superbe et la composition est parfaite. J'aime bien la pose désolé de l'oiseau et le contraste laissé par cette roche orangé.

Merci.

Hi Pam!
Don't worry, colours and sharpness are good. Beautifull bird, but so sad this time. I wonder why?

Hi Pam,

I have been away for a while, but here I am again! :)
This is a very nice shot of this Shag. Focus is fine and colors are nice. TFS!

Regards,
Pieter

Hey Pam

Another exellent shot you hav taken. The colours, details and sharpness are exellent. And the POV is very good too, it makes the bird look a bit shy (the way it holds it head). The background is beautiful, very nice colours and details there too. And as always you have made a very good note and an exellent frame. TFS Mattias
(what program do you use to make such nice frames)

I think it looks great, nice pose, colour and detail.
well done on the frameworks as well.

Very good shot Pam,
The details are nice, clear and sharp.
Good colours, lighting and exposure. DOF is spot on and the POV is good.
Well composed and nicely framed. Your laptop seems fine, no problems with sharpness or colour here.
Thanks for posting, enjoy the rest of your holiday my friend.
