Zosterops lateralis (Silvereye)

One of Australia's more common and delightful birds, the Silvereye is found throughout the southwest of Western Australia, from south of Exmouth to Esperance and across the Nullarbor. It does not survive in the arid interior. There would be few people who have not seen a Silvereye cheekily stealing food from outdoor picnics, whistling quietly in hedges or flocking noisily around bird baths. They are also infamously known by orcharders for their fondness of soft, ripe fruit!

The Silvereye is a distinctive bird. It is small (110-130 mm), olive grey-green in colour with a grey upper back and neck and white underneath. Its most obvious identifying mark is its namesake silver/white ring around its eyes.

Hi Pam,
This is a very good catch of this beautiful bird. Details an sharpness are wonderful. I like the POV and BG too. How a so little bird could hold such a big chunk of banana like this? Amazing!

A beauty, Pam. Incredibly crisp and great compo. The lighting is soft and subtle.

I don't remember a bird sanctuary in Otago (though I do remember a wonderful plant garden), so the banana makes me wonder if you did this in the backyard. But this is really an Aussie bird, he's a bit lost, especially in the winter.

Un bello retrato de esta especie, con adecuado DOF y POV, con suaves detalles en el plumaje del ave.

Hello Pam,

Remove that branch in front of the bird and this picture will be perfect!!! (But we don't have always the choice with nature). Colors and the grey bg are perfect! I like the avidity he is shpwing about the banana! Great position of the bird. Details are awesome (like all your pictures!).

Great job and TFS,

Michel
