It is autumn here in New Zealand now,and the time when many interesting fungi are fruiting.
The other day I found this beautiful Entoloma growing from a mossy bank beside a track in the Omotumotu reserve near Greymouth.
I haven't found a lot of information about this species yet, other than that it grows to around 80cm,lives on the forest floor, and has pink spores.
It is certainly one of New Zealands most recognizable fungi, although not seen by many people.
I've spent several days a week in the forest over the last five years or so,and I've only seen 2 or 3 in all that time.I'm going to search more thoroughly this autumn.
I'm also going to spend more time in the sub-alpine beech forests, where many of our most interesting fungi are found.
I hope to be able to bring you some very special treats.

Hi Steve.
I have to admit I've never seen a blue fungus. What a lovely creation of nature. You've captured it well with shallow dof and lovely colour. Well done.
Regards, Steve.

Hi Steve

Hello Steve,
Nice to see a photo from you. And you offer us a nice mushroom with an incredible blue color. Its green environment is pleasant too. Sharpness is good on the cap.
Perhaps for the composition : more space on the left side, less on right and bottom for remove the OOF fungi. An OOF specimen would have been better in background than in foreground, in my opinion ;-)
Congratulations my friend of NZ.

Can't believe its blue with pink spores, amazing, and this is a nice detailed photo. tfs

Great contribution here Steve, never seen this one before.
Love the colour, superb contrst with green mosses.
Great stuff.

Hi Steve,
Nice shot! Excellent colors and great details. Nice POV and good DOF. I like the green moss carpet that sets so nicely the subject apart.

HI Steve,
What beautiful & unexpected color!

Hi Steve,
Beautiful endemic fungus of NZ. I've already seen it on TrekEarth - click here. Your photo has fantastic colours and POV's good, too, but as a whole compo I have problems with the right side, because the out-of-focus part's too big. It should have been fully cropped by my opinion. Did it in WS, have a look, please.
Otherwise nice photo of a nice fungus. Tfs, regards, László

Hello Steve,
Very impressive shot, with great sharpness and amazing colours. Thank you for the tips to shot little fungi.
Best regards,

Hello Steve.

Excellent image, very god details ald colors.
Jose luis.

Wow! I have never seen blue coloured fungi before. But what makes this shot special to me is the way the moss has ground around the fungi. The deep bright green moss looks like a dense forest in which a beautiful blue tree has grown. Nice shot,
