Mt. Cook at 3764m is the highest of New Zealands 27 mountains. Called Aorakie by the Maori and is 250m higher than its nearest rival Mt. Tasmin.Mountains dominate large areas of the New Zealand landscape. About 60% of the South Island is covered by ranges with peaks over 1500m.
