Yesterday we were up and away bright and early for a drive out to Blackball.
Blackball is on old mining town on a wee plateau tucked into the heavily forested montains of the Paparoa Range.
Nearby,is the Moonlight Creek ecological area, which is well known as a gold panners haven.
On the way out to Moonlight Creek we found a 4 wheel drive track heading off into the forest which looked mighty inviting.
We followed it as far as we could, over at least one ford, until we came to a spot where the road had totally collapsed into the streambed.
This shot was taken a little way downstream.
The forest around here is predominantly Nothofagus (beech) species, interspersed with other native trees; podocarps such as Rimu,Kahikatea & Totara, Coprosmas, Hebes, Tree Ferns etc

Tomorrow is a special day for me .... I shall be celebrating my 50th birthday, and I am making a special 50th birthday video to share with all my friends.
You have seen photographs of the wonderful places I go to ... tomorrow I am going to actually film some of these beautiful places in a kind of Potty-eco-documentary which I will eventually post on You Tube.
I'll post a reminder in the forum when it is ready.
This is your chance to see 'Lord Potty' on film.
Bet you're all excited ;)

Thanks for looking.

Hola Steve,
Precioso lugar el que nos muestras con una luz bien controlada y colores naturales, parece un hábitat estupendo para las setas. Que tengas un buen día y feliz cumpleaños.

Well i won't wait till tomorrow and will wish you all the best and the classical "Happy Birthday" from today!!!
50 is indeed something special (i know i just turn 25 and that felt cool) so i think what i could say here is that i would like you to have another half a century of only beautiful days from now on :)

This is a gorgeous landscape here, in which the vegetation is dominant an very beautiful.
The moss everywhere looks terrific while the ferns on the right add a bit more impact and texture to the scene.
Very well managed exposure and great depth here as well.

Bravo and TFS

Well.. I, for one, am mightily excited!!!!! Have fun.. and Happy Birthday! : )

This reminds me of pictures of the rain forest here in Oregon... though not right now as it is snowing as I type! Without finding a stream or something to give structure to the image it can be a real photography challenge. You did well here.

Hi Steve,

Happy, Happy Birthday - a day early. A half century - I remember celebrating my 50th. You're still a young kid. I love forests and streams and miss them now that I live in the desert. This is beautiful and brings back fond memories. A beautiful scene with the water and greenery. The POV is wonderful - the eye wants to follow the stream beyond the picture. I'm looking forward to seeing your video.

Hi Steve,
This is a photo to my heart. I love these little streams and especially when they are situated in such a stunning forest. The speed of the flow of the water is also important to me, and yours has it. I love the slight motion you captured in the water. The color of the water contrast beautifully with the many shades of green of the forest. The bending trees add a kind of romance to the photo.
TFS and happy Birthday!!!

Hello Steve,
Many happy returns of the day! At 50 you have reached your prime!
Just happened to see this fine capture of a nothofagus forest stream with mosses and ferns everywhere. The POV composition and lighting are great: I can almost feel the humidity!
Thanks and all the best.

Lovely shot Steve, love the reflections on the water and the colours, lovely and soft and peaceful. Nice composition and pov.
