[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This afternoon I took my Son, Aqua, and my stepson, Andre for a walk up to the top of one of my favourite ridges in the Arorangi Reserve, just outside Greymouth.

This is a photo looking back down into the bush from the ridge.
The clumps of plants with thin leaves climbing the tall trees are an epiphytic vine called Kiekie (Freycinetia banksii).
It has a flexible ridged stem that looks similar to bamboo, and can completely cover very tall trees.
The forest here is not unlike many forests in lowland areas of New Zealand, although there are a few species that grow in the warmer North Island that aren't seen down this way.
The Nothofagus (Beech) trees that are so abundant down here are not so often found up north though.
They are found more in colder inland and mountainous regions, although there is some excellent Nothofagus forest in some higher regions of the North Island like the Urewera National Park.

I hope you like this photo from one of my favourite local spots.
This spot is only about 5 minutes drive and five minutes walk from my home, so I can go here any time I like to chill out ..... paradise!

Thanks for looking.
Steve

Hi Steve,
I love pictures like that. The variety of the vegetation is always impressive. Love to be there once.

Wow dude...You have your wilderness too! A big difference from N to S but still a wilderness in classification...In my wilderness I look out for larger predators but in yours it looks from the image that my only enemies would be very small and harder to detect. Great wilderness-scape!

Hello Mr. Steve!

Yo have a great luck to have these places so close to home. And even more fortunate to be able to capture its essence with your camera and your talent.

A nice photo and great photography. I see that you're committed to the SX10, more and more.

Greetings,

Jesus
