I found this guy hopping around in my laundry. He must have come in through the open door from the garden. I'm not sure if he is a cricket ar a young weta. If you could help I'd appreciate it.

He was about 1.5cm long and seen here sitting on a sack of potatoes. The stitching you can see on the top was 5-8mm long to give you an idea of this cute guys size.

He could jump over 1 meter so once he jumped he was hard to find again. Fortuneatly he stoped long enough on the sack of potatoes for me to get a good shot.

The room was very dark so I had to point and guess. I used my hand to deflect the light of the flash on to the insect. I quite liked the spotlight effect here so this is the shot I chose to post.

PP paintshop crop and resize.

Hi Sue, I'd say this is a young weta. Since I got my digital camera I've not seen one to shoot yet, so good for you! The big ones are so scary, but at this size they're not so bad! Good catch. TFS.

Great shot Sue! I like title and moment. Perfect timing and composition. You were lucky to capture him exactly in spot of light. Now he is worldwide known star ;-)

Great image of this cricket Sue, the placement in the frame and background really make him stand out. The light falling on him makes it very special. Well done!

Sue, a very fine macro shot. Excellent details and good tones of colour. A great capture, very well done.

Nice shot Sue!
It looks quite amazing, probably because of the lighting. Good quality and nice colours as well.

Hi Sue,
He is really in the spot light here. You were very creative in getting this shot. I like it!

Hi Sue. This is very well done. The spot light effect on the insect is very good, as is the detail. Excellent!

Hi Sue,
I missed this one, it's a very interesting insect. I love the long antennas and the light, it's like a spotlight for a great star coming through the red carpet.
Very good, thanks
