This Mahoenui giant weta, Deinacrida heteracantha. A Weta that weighed in at about 70gms. They have a life cycle of 2 years. They are amazingly gentle creatures.

I don't like the date on your photo.

You lucky b*****d! I've always wanted to hold one of these.Unless I'm mistaken,this is the Mahoenui giant weta, Deinacrida heteracantha.
What a splendid creature,and,yes,so gentle.
Apparently these have been released in the Ruakuri reserve where we were caving last week. I'd love to find one.

WOW, it is a real giant Gareth. DOF is spot on leaving a lot of details. I agree with Mpampis about the date. I also would crop/clone out the white and blue thing.

I hate wetas!!!

Maybe a more natural setting would have worked better but then you would have had no real scale. I agree with the other comments two.
