Ruby Lacewing (Cethosia biblis)

Distribution: Widespread from northern India to China, Malaysia, Indonesia and the Phillipines.

Remarks: Members of the genus Cethosia are also known as " the lacewings" because of the distinctive shape of their wings. A butterfly of the rainforest, they are most easily seen along the forest edge or along tracks through the rainforest. Eggs are laid in batches on the tendrils of the food plant usually members of the passion flower family. The larvae feed gregariously and are strikingly coloured with long barbed spines that are reported to have urticating properties. The rather large and elegant bright orange-red adults are thought to be distasteful to predators.

Perfect shot ! Sharpness, colours, scene, everything. How did you get that plain grey bg ? Is it the sky, or a sheet...?

Beautiful subject and detail. Nice even BG no distractions. Although a green BG would help butterfly stand out. How did you deal with condensation on equipment in tropical butterfly house.

Marvellous capture, Pam!
Traditional cotton saris in Gujarat and Rajasthan in India sometimes have similar colours and designs, and they look simply elegant.
Thanks for sharing this great image.

Hi Pam
Awesome shot. I was scared that should I remain too long in this photo the hatchling might thaw out completely and fly out of my screen. What a loss that would have meant to TN (chuckle). It could not look better in real life.
A brilliant composition and POV, stunning colours, amazing tack sharp details, perfect BG, and excellent exposure.
Very well done and TFS.

Hi Pam, very nice shot. Lovley details and lighting - very well done on this.

Another excellent picture, Pam! Do you find it in nature of within an insectarium? The pose of the insect cannot be better! Excellent management of the exposition, pov and composition! You always assist to a little miracle when you are present at such an event, isn't it? Colors looks so natural too! TFS,

Long time no see, no post, but very busy, not so? I see a tremendous improvement, and the score! You are doing well.
This is stunning, I love the idea, one on my wishlist for a lonnngg time!
It is just beautiful, no BG clutter, just the subject, and that portrayed exquisitely well, like lace.
Thanks for looking too at my stuff, I do not stay away because I want to, it is just that life moves us all along on its billows.

Hallo Pam,

Excellent picture with great sharpness! The DOF is very well handled and composition looks great! Another great thing about this picture is the moment you chose for taking the picture, just after hatching. Perfect timing! But the colors and the motif are what draw my eyes to this photo. They are just perfect! Congratulations and TFS!

Eddie
