I encountered this specimen of Diaethria clymena or Cramer's Eighty-eight on the trail to the Argentinian part of the Iguaçu Falls. It is quite common from Mexico to Peru and Brazil. The wingspan is about 30–40 millimeters. Adults are black with a blue band on each wing. The underside is red and white with black stripes that look like an outlined number eighty-eight (or 80 in this case…).
It was taken, standing on a metal railing, with my little Sony RX100.
