Damselfly 1 - Hoverfly 0

In the scene can be appraised the moment of the capture of a well-known Hoverfly by previous presentations by a Damselfly also already published in precedence.

After much investigation I could identify this species of Hoverfly exactly... Allograpta obliqua (Syrphidae).

Damselfly is of Ischnura genus that I do not surpass 40mm. of length.

You can find other images and more information about Ischnura HERE and the links mentioned in the note of the same one.

Hoverfly Allograpta obliqua (Syrphidae)

Identification:The egg is creamy white, microscopically sculptured, elongate oval, about 0.84 mm in length and 0.25 mm in diameter.

The full-grown larva is 8 to 9 mm in length, 2 mm wide, and about 1.2 mm in height; elongate oval, somewhat flattened on dorsum, the anterior end drawn out to a point when the insect extends itself; integument finely papillose, transversely wrinkled.
The fleshy conical elevations are surmounted with pale spines, colored green, with two narrow whitish longitudinal stripes flanking the dorsal vessel.
Posterior respiratory tubes fused mesad 0.5 mm long, the combined base about 27 mm wide.

The puparium is green; the two whitish larval stripes apparent for a day or two.
As the true pupa inside takes on the black and yellow color of the adult, the color of the puparium changes until all of the green disappears.
The puparium length averages 5.25 mm, width 2.5 mm and height 2.3 mm.
Posterior elevation is very gradual.

The adult is 6 to 7 mm long.
This species may be recognized by the generic characters -- yellow thoracic stripes and abdominal crossbands; on the fourth and fifth segments, four longitudinal, oblique, yellow stripes or spots; and yellow face lacking a complete median stripe.
Eyes of the male are holoptic, those of the female dichoptic.

Other images of this species can be seen in Hoverfly and my reflection, and Hoverfly or Totem

Surprising shot a gradonfly eating an Hoverfly.
Goodetails.
Well done.

Great action Ricardo.
I have also dmaselflies with a prey in the mouth,
but not this size. Maybe this damselfly is a "he-man" and only
cath big flies.
Very good composition and colours.
Very good note.

Hoverflies are masters fliers but this one have no luck. Good action shot with pretty composition.

Wonderful catch Ricardo.
Very good details, nice DOF and good composition.
but IMO this is not sharp enough :)

Great one

Hello Ricardo

Incredible detail captured here. The body appears to be an iridescent colour and the transparent wings are fantastic. Excellent DoF. TFS

Moi qui croyais que les libellule etait de gentilles petites betes !
good job my friend.

Wow! Ricardo, this is an exceptional moment you captured here. Although not tack sharp the colours and the moment as well as a lovely composition makes it special. It's a beautifull damselfly I have not seen this colour before. Great shot.

I do think Paul's gonna be torn between two loves here though.

I thought that the dragonflies are vegetarians, very great shot Ricardo

Great capture Ricardo, very well seen. I'm a fan of both these insects but I feel sorry for that hoverfly. Very well done.

Ola
