Class: Aves
Order: Falconiformes
Family: Falconidae
Genus and species: Milvago chimango

Vulgar names: Chimango (Castilian); chimango caracara (English).
It is a bird that lives in all Argentina and Uruguay, also in Chile, Bolivia, Paraguay and Brazil. It lives in varied ambient, even lately in cities, where it is fed on wastes. In his natural habitat, it eats carrion, insects and small animals. Its population is numerous and in increase due to the agricultural activities, since it in the open sees beneficiary when being amounts of insects, larvae and worms when plow earth; this attracts great amount of these birds, gulls, next to to a lesser extent southern lapwings, and and other small birds, that are flying behind the tractor with the plow.
Its shout is unmistakable ieeeé.
I take this photo when I was working in countryside and it passed with pick up of my company, without lowering to me of her. Some species of birds tolerate the presence of vehicles, and if it is circulated slowly and without abrupt movements inside, some photos can be done; although to the distance that I took it, about 8 meters and with a lengthy vehicle in front of they, trouble them enough.
Behind there is a seeded field of soybean, today the main culture. It is not very good for the diversity of species and genetics of other vegetal epecies. In other regions of my country, farmers are destroying wooded and scrabbed territories to take step to this cultive, which already to brought great disadvantages.

Holla Hernan.
Tienes una composicion increible en esta foto.
Muy bueno el color y los detalles son perfectos, aunque podrias y esa es solamente una sugerencia, cambiar la tonalidad de los colores.
De todas maneras la composicion es perfecta.
Saludos
JC

Hi Herman,
A well caught image.Nicely composed with good depth of focus with the less interesting background blurred. The colours seem to be a bit orange/brown so I thought I'd have a go at a workshop.TFS.
Regards, David

Hi Hernan,
A lovely shot, nice detail and colour, nice warm light too. DOF is good, I might have been tempted to clone out the barbed wire though. Nice work!

Hi Hernan
I have never seen nor heard of this type of caracara before so thanks for the introduction. It seems that all bob-wire fences in Argentina are so rusted they probably qualify as natural history phenomena (chuckle).
Your composition is excellent and the cropping is great. The DOF is spot-on with nice sharp details on the bird and the BG is stunning. The exposure was well managed with good contrasts displayed.
Very well done and TFS.
Regards
Loot
PS. Hernan, if you can obtain some Agfa film, do a test and maybe have it developed at some other lab and see if there is any difference in the colours.

It seems to melt into the background. Nice bird. Pity about the wire, but then again, maybe it serves to remind us of what we have done to nature.

Hola, Hernan! This is a nice shot! I've seen some "carcarás" (name here)just yesterday, spending some time in the farm nearby. But I don't have any nice zoom to have a nice picture, but I'm going to buy a new camera and lens soon.
You did it perfectly here! Excelent sharp details and gold colours overall. Very well done shot! TFS!
Saludos!

Hola Hernan, Que suerte haber encontrado un ave tan grande y hermosa. Yo hice un viaje a las aldeas cercanas con la esperanza de volver con alguna toma de por los menos un buho. Pero nada. :-(

Hermosos colores y contraste. Me gusta mucho tambien el DOF. TFS, Gabriel
