[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
I’ve searched between the Lapwing/Plover photos on TN, but could not find a photo of this bird. So another NEW SPECIES FOR TREKNATURE. If I’m wrong, please let me know.
There is not much information about this bird on internet. So therefore my “Pantanal bible”.

The Pied Plover or Pied Lapwing, Hoploxypterus cayanus, is about 23 cm.
An elegant plover of sandbars and muddy areas along rivers and around ponds. Sometimes placed in the genus Vanellus.
Bill dusky; narrow but often conspicuous narrow eye-ring coral red; rather long legs coral red. Face black, extending down hindneck to upper back and to a wide pectoral band. A conspicuous white diadem encircles the greyish midcrown. Greyish brown above with black scapulars bordered by white stripe down sides of back; rump white, tail black. Mostly white below. In flight shows a bold, three-part pattern with greyish brown forewing, white inner flight feathers and coverts and black primaries; a carpal spur shows at bend of the wing.
An uncommon bird, here (Pantanal) ranging in well-dispersed pairs, rarely in small groups.
Feeds by running forward in short bursts, pausing to pick a prey; wades only infrequently.
Through often quiet, gives a soft “whoyt” or “whee-whoyt”, also a querulous “wheeyp?” call, often given at night.

You are great!!!
It does look like the American Avocet we saw last Saturday; but it is not one. The Avocet has a longer beak.
Loved your notes.
Mario with regards.

hallo Peter

Shalom Peter,

Beautiful specimen. Excellent capture. I like the colors, light and shadows, and, as usual, the very fine details. The birds posed for you just right, lifting a bit its left leg...

Well done!

Have a pleasant and productive day,

Hi Peter, I am an idiot of bird ID as I was mistaken the species of the birds all the time and TE members had to correct the ID for me. That is great for learning. I like this little bird and you have captured at the perfect moment. I like the original composition. Great details and I specially like the shadow on the sand. Have a nice weekend

Hello Peter,
Missed quite some pictures..sorry for that. I will chose this one for its cute model, the Pied Plover, which seems too to be a first on TN. I like its vivid eye and the pose you caught.
Thanks a lot

Very beautiful image with beautiful color and nice details.
