Ommatius sp and prey.

Robberfly.

They are powerfully built, bristly flies with a short stout proboscis.
The name "robber flies" reflects their notoriously aggressive predatory habits; they feed mainly on other insects and as a rule they wait in ambush and catch their prey in flight. The Asilidae are a family in the order Diptera, the true flies. The common name for members of the family is the robber flies. The Asilidae are cosmopolitan, with over 7000 described species.

Your expertise with extension tubes in creating huge macros is phenomenal, Paulo.
This is a brilliant close-up portrait of a Robber Fly.
Its strong limbs are well presented in this capture.
Thanks for bringing back the touch of class this site was once known for.

Hello Paulo,
An outstanding close-up view of this Robber Fly. Every minute detail is easily seen in super sharp focus. Looks like it has captured a tiny gnat-like insect for dinner. White balance and exposure are perfect and the blurred BG keeps you focused entirely on the subject. Great job Paulo!!

Ciao Paulo, great closeup of robberfly with fantastic details, wonderful colors and splendid sharpness, very well done, my friend, ciao Silvio

Good one with tons of details, I would have loved to see the entire body rather that an portrait of this. The details indicate that this is a well focused and well exposed picture.
