Female of Lesser Frigatebird Fregata ariel

COMMON NAMES: Lesser Frigatebird, Least Frigatebird, Man-of-War Bird, Man-o'-War Bird, Man-o'-War Hawk

There are five species in the family Fregatidae, the frigatebirds. They are very closely related, and are all in the single genus Fregata. Frigatebirds attack other sea birds, hence the name. They are also sometimes called Man of War birds or Pirate birds.

Lesser Frigatebird has a large range, with an estimated global breeding extent of occurrence of 50,000–100,000 km2. It has a large global population estimated to be 200,000 individuals. Global population trends have not been quantified, but the species is not believed to approach the thresholds for the population decline criterion of the IUCN Red List (i.e., declining more than 30% in ten years or three generations). For these reasons, the species is evaluated as Least Concern.

The photo was taken from a board of Polar Pioneer on the Atlantic Ocean in Equatorial Zone on southern hemisphere not in Brazil but Brazil (Rio de Janeiro) was the nearest country.

You can see the frigatebird attack on a gannet in my workshop.

I wan to dedicate these photo to a birdwatcher and treknature photographer Ivan (Argus).

Good in flight shot Krzysztof.
I like the pose of the bird with his head pointing upwards.
Composition is very well done and the way the bird does stand out against the blue sky is very nice.
Just have the feeling that the image is a little under exposed.
You gould try and work that out with curves and levels.
Best regards and have a nice weekend, Harry

Hello Krzysztof,
Many thanks for this dedication! I feel honoured.
As it happens, we are neighbours!
I have always wanted to capture a Frigatebird, especially one in flight, like your excellent shot of the female Lesser Frigatebird.
This is a fine sharp and detailed shot, even showing us the blue eye and the long tail makes the composition just right. Fine light management.
Well done and once again, thanks alot1
Best wishes, Ivan

Hi Krzysztof

Another outstanding shot from you last trip and also a beautiful dedication.
This is indeed a splendid in-flight and also a nice presentation of this wonderful bird - Lesser Frigatebird - a species we don't see much of here on TN.
The exopsure here was very tricky but you managed it as good as possible.
The details are superb and the colors are lovely.
A very beautiful composition.

Bravo and TFS

This is a wonderful image of a Frigatebird against the blue sky somewhere near Brazil, Krzysztof.
I can see its very vigilant eye rather clearly.
This bird is new for many of us, I am sure.
Thanks for sharing it and take care.

Hi Krzysztof,
Outstanding in-flight shot of this frigatebird. Such enormous wingspan. I like the absolute horizontal wing position and the love blue sky BG. The illustration of its wings and the features of its body are well portrayed. Very nicely composed and presented. Kudos.

Hi Krzysztof.
Excellent in-flight shot and so impressive pose of the bird. I like excellent composition and cropping of the picture and exposure. It is not so easy in your case and you have done this job perfectly. My kind regards and TFS.

Great POV of this shot. Nice blue background and wonderful contrast.

Great POV and background colors.

Hello Krzysztof!

A very nice, dynamic shot! very good composition and POV! TFS.

Hello Krzysztof,

This is a picture of a bird we don't see in my country! I guess it lives by the ocean! It is also a great dedication! You composed the image perfectly! I like the way you favored the empty space on the upper side of the picture where the bird is looking. The blue sky makes the perfect background for such a picture as the subject stands out easily against it.
You also did a good job on exposure and focus. The details in the shade are well exposed and look great. Well done!

With Friendly Regards,
