Paul Bratescu (Toucadoo - www.treknature.com/members/Toucadoo/) wrote in a comment of a photo of mine, he enjoys the "burrowing owls a lot". That's why this one goes to him.

I could have cloned out the leaves, but I decided to keep them. Anyway, feel free to clone them out through workshops.
_____

It's a "coruja-do-campo" (Speotyto cunicularia). In English, burrowing owl. They usually build their nests by digging holes. They can be found almost all over Brazil, feed on insects and have nocturnal and diurnal habits.

Hi Livio, nice job this way. I like the leaves, makes it natural and real, anyway it is what it is.
Good week, greetings Reina

Hello Livio,

This is a fine shot of this great owl.

I especially like the details, colors, POV, exposure, and overall composition (with leaves...)

It is an interesting bonus, the feathers in his claw, perhaps from a recent confrontation?

Excellent work, thank you for sharing it with us!

dont know how you do it...but i do see the word canon in a lot of these shots..yours and others..gives me something to think about
the background and the leaves just lift this little rascal off the page and into my screen

Lovely pose of this owl, Livio. A simple composition that has a feeling of zen to it. I like the sharp details and the direct eye contact.
I am glad you did not clone out the leaves. The vivid green adds a dash of color contrast, and the leaves balance out the picture quite nicely. Well done and TFS. : )

Excellent shot,I liked the composition as its.I liked the the green leaves for contast of bokeh. POV&DOF are good.

Wonderful photo! You sure know how to photograph birds! No, I would not clone out the green leaves. I think they add more than they detract. I would however, be tempted to remove a little of the orange cast. The bright orange in the BG is the only thing I find a little distracting. I played with your photo a little and with Photoshop Selective Color, I toned down the orange BG and removed the orange cast from Mr. Owl. I, of course don't know exactly what his coloring should be, but I found the picture a little more comfortable with less orange.

Wonderful capture Livio! Great pose of the bird, very sharp and clear. Colors are beautiful and composition is excellent. Colors of the BG are very nice contrast with the green leaves. TFS!

Great portrait, Livio.
I don't think any cloning out is needed. The leaves gives such a fine touch compositionaly as well as coloristic.
Strong photo.

Regards, Petru

Fantastic eye contact. DOF is perfect and the background works really well. I like the composition very much. Sharp detail and the colours are great.

Excellent shot Livio. Very sharp details, strong composition and perfect DOF. The bg is perfect too. TFS!

Livio,
A perfect image as the depth of field is perfect and the focus is outstanding. the image would not be the same without the "GREEN" leaves on this tree.
Excellent...

Hi Livio,
this is a great picture. Very good composition and POV.
The details and DOF are also good.
It's good that you didn't clone out the leaves.
Excellent work, my friend.

Well caught Livios, this is an excellent shot. I agree with you, I prefere the leaves near the bird. Composition is perfect!! Very well done, Didier.

Hi Livio

Nice shot. Lovely composition. Good light and POV. Good exposure and colours. Crisp, clear and sharp. Nice work. Thanks.

Wow! Not only is this a fantastic shot with perfect marks all around, you also dedicated to me! I'm extremely honored, I wish I was here early the day you posted this, I really would of been one of the first to comment on this and not just because this one was for me but because its is perfect in every aspect. The leaves are the perfect touch and I wouldn't change a thing. Way to go Livio. ;)

I just got back from Canada late Sunday, I was up at Squamish photographing the Bald Eagles in the freezing cold & rain. December and January have a high concentration of raptors around 1600-1800 count, I unfortunately had terrible luck due to the heavy rains washing out the chum salmon, their main food source that the eagle feed on, I think the most I saw in one spot were about 8 and then it started to rain like crazy so I headed back to the states not very satified, next I hope I have better luck.

I feel bad not being here on this pictures debut on treknature, but from the looks of it everyone really appreciates your fine talent. A Big Thank You!! :)

Why clone out the leaves, they add an dimension and contrast to the shot.

Its very good Livio, perhaps your best burrowing owl shot so far. Good focus on those eyes and the bird is in a nice pose. Great background.

An excellent composition Livio. Very good detail, color, light and sharpness. Great pose/POV seen in your owl. I think the leaves add here, and to clone them out would be a mistake. Your frame needs the green.
Very well done.
Thank You!

Livio,

Another superb specimen! Very sharp and detailed image that has good Composition, DOF and POV. TFS,
Sheriff

Found this through the workshop, whilst the noise reduced version is more pleasing to the eye, it is the original capture that makes the image.

Composition is wonderful. If anything rather than worry about the noise I may have been tempted to clone out the very small piece of greenery at the bottom of the frame directly under the tail feathers.

Hello Livio this is wonderful and I am glad you did not remove the leaves, which gives a super contrast and makes the colors of the owl.

Hi Livio!

This is a very nice shot. Sharpness and exposure are excellent. Fill-in flash is very discret but efficient. I love the soft light. Composition is great and well balanced. Good POV and shallow DOF isolate you subject beautifully.
Splendid work Livio and TFS.

bonjour livio
cette photo est vraiment "chouette",bravo.

Hi Livio. One of those rare perfect owl pictures. Beautiful detail, sharpness and colour against a diffuse BG. Wonderful composition. Very nicely done :)

Simply fantastic. I have made some photos of burrowing owls. But yours is fantastic.

Linda imagem!!!

Hi Livio,
Like others wrote, I'm also glad you didn't clone out the leaves as they really bring so much colours and, I'd say "freshness" to the picture. That's a wonderful picture, great subject, sharpness, nice background and the leaves are very special.
Thanks for sharing, I wish you many pictures of Brazilian birds as good as this one.
Greetings,
Michal
PS. This is my first critique on TrekNature ;)

Hello again Livio!
Another fantactic presentation and a nice dedication to Paul :)
I like a lot this lovely composition with amazing details and very good POV.
Best regards,
Radomir
