I was going to the city of Itatinga (sees: Itatinga ), for dirt road (40 kilometers), when I sighted this tesourinha in the gate of a farm. I had luck of power to approach enough for this picture.

Tyrannus savanna (Linnaeus, 1758): tesourinha; fork-tailed flycatcher

The tesourinhas are birds that they are characterized by executing numerous aerobatics, showing the forked tail opening up as if they were the sheets of a scissors; this fact created the popular name. The nestlings, until a certain age, accompany the parents and they are easily distinguished for they possess the much smaller tail than the one of the adults. Of their 4 subspecieses, just T. s. savanna is migratory and he/she moves for the north of Brazil; it is present in the Brazilian southeast between September and February.

Feeding: insects captured during the flight, or when landed in trees.

Nidificação: the nest is made with dry branches, in bowl form, locating the about 4 m of the soil. The eggs, 4 or 5, they are white-yellowish with brown stains, brown-grown dark and gray, forming a wide crown in an of the poles. They measure about 21 x 16 mm and they are incubated by the couple.

Habitat: fields and savannahs.

Such: 36,5 cm

Nice shot, nice bird. Picture a bit noisy, a traces of PP.

Very nice image Jose. I hope we will see more good ones from you. well done

Very nice capture Jose. Nice colours and dof showing plenty of details in the plumage. I agree with Philip about the little noise but it is a minor thing here. I think it could come from enlargement after cropping but since you do not tell us if you have cropped the picture I am guessing. Personally I would prefer some more space infront of the bird.

I like this one, you've detail in the black without having blown out the whites, which is no mean feat ;-))
Nice capture!

ficou muito bonita com o contraste do ceu ao fundo, parabens.

This is a beauty Jose! I like the parallel lines in the composition. You did well to get the whole tail in, as well as to get good detail on the bird as well.

Very well done and thanks for posting.

Nossa fico muito linda a foto meus parabens !! E pode deixar que seguirei suas dicas ;)

Boa foto, pespectiva, inclusive a textura da madeira da porteira!

José Reynaldo, excelente captura e excelente nota.
