Black-fronted Piping Guan - Pipile jacutinga - Pénélope à front noir

The black fronted piping guan:
The jacutinga Pipile jacutinga was formerly one of the most abundant game bird cracids in the Atlantic forest of Brazil. Nowadays this species is vulnerable to extinction due to hunting and habitat loss. Jacutingas feed mainly on the sugar-rich fruit of 41 species.

The shot:
The bird was not shy. I could have come much closer, but there was a fence. I found the light and the bird beautiful. The bird was on top of Iguacu falls (ones of the biggest in the world). The fog behind the bird comes from the crashing water down the falls. It was at sun set. The light was not enough and the bird was moving. I took as many shoots as possible with the hope that a few won't be blur. I was lucky: only that one from the 50 was sharp. Distance was too long for flash (flash picture are less nice anyway). I had no idea in that time that this is a rare bird (as I'm not a specialist in Brasilian birds).

Thanks for looking

Quelle tête extraordinaire !
Bonne journée.

Don't think I've seen this one on TN before, certainly an attractive species.
Quite reasonable sharpness and well composed.

What an amazing looking bird, Jean Marie.
The top of the head is a bit OE, but it is a great POV of this guan that is rarely seen on TN.
Good colors and nice composition.
TFS. : )

Well done Jean.
Quite the catch to get this rare bird..
I think it's well composed and you have a good POV.
You also managed the difficult exposure of the black & white plumage well. The birds environment adds good interest. Nice colors and details. :)
Have a Great Day!
