Jabiru stork - Jabiru mycteria

This is a very large stork. In flight it is majestic (which wording can’t be used to describe its rather clumsy take-off).
It inhabits freshwater marshes and open country where there are ponds and lakes. It feeds on fish, frog, snake, young caiman, etc., and can be quite energetic in pursuit of its prey jumping up and down in the water.
It builds conspicuous large nests, which get bigger every year.

This bird is a symbol from Pantanal and indeed they were numerous there. The pic was taken from the river. I wished so much the flies would be on the picture… and they are.
: )

Thanks for looking.

Well done Jean!
Composed well and the flies about the head add a nice buzz to the mood of the shot :)
I think what is most striking is the illusion of size that your POV gives. This is a large specie of stork, but this perspective makes it look as if it's towering over the BG trees..IMHO at least ;)
Have a great weekend!

Hi JeanMarie,
This is an excellent shot with fine detail, composition and perspective. You can see that this Jabiru is bothered both by the heat, making him open his bill, and by the bugs attracted to smell coming from his throat.
Really this is also an action shot.
TFS, regards, Ivan

Hi Jeanmarie, well captured with excellent POV,Ilike this compo alot, the well chosen POV gives the bird a giant karakter,Regards and TFS

Hello JeanMarie,
What a stunning POV for this one! It seems that you were quite close... This is a really strange looking bird. I like details you caught here and this very good composition. The flies turning around it are definitively a plus; this is real wild life ;) Thanks,

Hello JeanMarie,
powerful presentation of the stork in its natural habitat -taken against the sky from an excellent low point of view. The molesting by some flies impressively documented. I suppose the flies did not avoid the keen photographer in his marshy place, either. Thank you! Best regards,
