Im reposting this image and added some new interesting information about this kind of grasshopers in Colombia. I have used 'Neatimage' to clean up a certain amount of noise on the shot.

Eumastacids can be easily recognized from other
colombian grasshopers by their small size, lengthened form, hind legs forming a right angle in relation with the vertical plane of the body, antennae smaller than the fore femur and metallic yellow, red, green or blue colors.

In general, they can be found from the sea level up to
3000 m, on wet places, more or less open, with mixed
vegetation, mainly composed by ferns that constitute the food of some species. No species have been recorded as plague or of any economical importance in Colombia.

More than 100 species could be found in Colombia, but it is difficult to estimate this number. A very low local diversity has been observed, usually only one or two species per locality, making difficult an intensive collection of Eumastacidae. Most of the species described and recorded come from the Amazonian region and the Eastern Cordillera.

Modified from (Varón, 2000) Eumastacid Grasshoppers (Insecta: Orthoptera: Caelifera: Eumastacidae) of

Hola Carlos,
this is not only a beautiful and colourful insect but also a superb picture of the grasshopper.
Nice point of view and perfectly blurred background shows the insect standing out well - and excellently sharp, of course.
You show so interesting insects from North Columbia that I feel urged to visit this area.
Thank you for giving the URL of your homepage. I noticed that your first paper was on Satyridae.
This is the butterfly group I'm most interested in - worldwide.
Best wishes, Peter

Hello carlos,
A superb macro of this highly colourful Eumastacid grasshopper taken 3 yrs ago when digital cameras were not as advanced and with that in mind this of excellent quality.
The POV to show the characteristic leg position as well as the abdomen is great and the DOF and sharpness superb.
Thanks for sharing this beauty,
