Cassius Blue or Tropical Striped Blue - Leptotes cassius (Cramer, 1775)

Hello friends!

This is not a good picture, in fact, I see a strange blue glow at the rear of the butterfly's wings, which I attribute to the flash exceeded. But I want to know if I am correct or not.
The interesting thing about this photo, is it was experimental, this butterfly was in the middle (literally immersed) of the foliage of my plants in the garden, is a very tiny butterfly, is white but was without light, I had to use fill flash (setting -1 on my old Olympus), the mode is macro focus, with 2.5x zoom, RAW mode and an aperture of f/3.9 to try to blur the great amount of foliage around.

I think it was worth the experiment, this may serve me for photos in the future!

I hope someone (who make macros with compact and bridges) will serve this note here in TN!
Regards,

Jesús

Some information about this butterfly:
Leptotes cassius, commonly known as the Cassius Blue or Tropical Striped Blue, is a butterfly of the Lycaenidae family. It is found in Florida and the Keys, Texas south through the Caribbean, Mexico, and Central America to South America. Strays can be found in New Mexico, Kansas, Missouri and South Carolina.

The wingspan is 20–35 mm.

The butterfly species has an important role in Marisha Pessl's 2006 novel, Special Topics in Calamity Physics. The protagonist, Blue van Meer, is named in honor of the Cassius Blue.

The caterpillars feed natively on Fabaceae. Foodplants on record are Amorpha crenulata, Woolly Rattlepod (Crotalaria incana), Galactia regularis and Lima Bean (Phaseolus lunatus). It can also successfully develop feeding on Cape Leadwort (Plumbago auriculata) or Doctorbush (P. scandens), which (among the eudicots) are not closely related to its usual foodplants.

Beautiful angle in getting this butterfly in closed wings. The plane of focus is perfect keeping it shallow and neat.
Thanks for sharing, Jesus.

jusni

Beautiful clean shot with tremendous amount of shallow depth of field and fine white balance ....big time, my friend Jesus! I am truly amazed by your technical skills here ...I tough that this kind of shots can be achieved only with a proper DSLR and a dedicated macro lens!I envy you!

Hello Jesús,
A can't find much wrong with this shot, though the use of flash can sometimes distort the colours in macros, especially with shiny subjects. The blue glow may be accentuated by flash, but it is not serious.
Nice sharpness, composition and neutral BG.
Thanks and enjoy your weekend,
Ivan
