[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
This creature, also known as the Harlequin Ghost Pipefish (Order Syngnathiformes, Family Solenostomidae), belongs to a small family related to the pipefish and sea horses that live in seaweed and sea grass beds. Unlike their relatives - where the male carries the eggs to incubate them - the female ghost pipefish holds the incubating eggs between two skin folds on the belly. The 'paradoxical' shape of the ghost pipefish, combined with its brightly coloured and highly ornamented skin, provides superb camouflage. A baby shrimp or other such prey would not expect a mouth at the end of such a strange leafy form. It also has different colour forms to fit its background.

A beautiful sea creature!
Good shot and excellent capture!
Best wishes

Hi Czaldy,

Now that is strange. Just fascinating. Let me know when you start to shoot (I mean photograph) birds - I will do your ID's.

Dommage d'avoir tourné cette photo en horizontal, puisque qu'en général sa position est tête en bas pour ce confondre avec son milieu ambiant.

This is a very interesting photo of a bizarre creature. I was surprised to read that it is a fish as it looks on the first glance more like a sea urchin. It would be interesting to know the size of this creature.

However, apart from that I like your detailed and well written descriptions and the photo has good contrasts and cropping.

Este es un pez maravilloso, gracias por compartir la foto. Me parece que la posición correcta de la foto es vertical??
