Beaghmore, Perhaps a Megalithic Portal unto another world?

The Beaghmore circles in the heart of Northern Ireland is certainly a magical place to visit. Our ancestors were certainly closer to nature than we are today and the changing of the seasons had special significance for these neolithic people.

Archaeologists conclude that the circles at beaghmore have been constructed in relation to the rising of the sun at the solstice, or to record the movements of the sun and moon acting as observatories for particular lunar, solar or stellar events.

I captured the Beaghmore stone circles image using HDR. This image is to feature on the front cover of the Northern Ireland Tourist Board publication called `Timeless NI’ another Megalith image of the Kilclooney Dolmen is also featuring on the cover of a Guide to Ireland to be published in May.

Hi Stephen,

Magnificent colors and mood. Interesting composition with all these rock in formation. The sun rays near the center is also well captured. I guess you used a grad filter?

Hi Stephen,

Great pics, after going through your gallery I really wished that you had shot them using a LF camera. You need much more than what this teeny weeny DSLR can offer.

Excellent use of HDR. I have seen other photos using the same technique and I think your pic looks great Stephen.

And CONGRATULATIONS on making the Cover shot of the Rolling Stones Magazine - ooops, that was by Dr Hook and the Medicne Show. Not that one!

No, well done Stephen, that is great honour, and the Ireland Tourist Board has picked a superb scene to show off your wonderful county.

Hi Steve

Another stunner from you!
And what a magical place it is! You know what...you are definitely right: Our ancestors were certainly closer to nature than we are today. And that's not really good...

Anyway, the HDR here sure gave a magnificent look of the place. The colors and details in the FG are terrific and that super-wide lens of yours helped you into including all there magnificent structures in the frame. I see some lighter and darker patches on the grass here - are they due to some dodge/burn tool or why?

The sky looks amazing, too, with all its tones fading towards the upper part of the frame.
The direct sun was a difficult elements, i presume, but you managed it superbly and created this breathtaking effect.

All-in-all: a brilliant photo and composition!

Bravo and TFS

Magnifique et forte ambiance.
Bonne journée.

Hi Stephen,
The stone circles always have this mystical and silent wisdom in them and your shot, combining it with the magical sky and the sun's position, makes it more powerful and obvious. Excellent use of wide angle. Thanks for this timeless great shot.

Hello Stephen!
What an amazing photo! It looks for me as the place from the "Hobbit" or the "Lord of the Rings" ;> Really fantastic composition with perfect light, beauty saturated colours and very interesting POV.

I was gonna say this looks like you applied the HDR technique to the image, I have been studying it effectiveness on images and the results are quite impressive. You have a beautiful image, well done Stephen. :)

Hi Steve,
Hope all is well with you. This is just superb! The HD rendering provides a really striking contrast of colours and light, something almost fairy tale about it. Great exposure and perfect timing to catch the sun just where it is. So glad to hear this has been published, completely deserved. I can't see one thing I'd want to change about this.

Hi Stephen.
Magnificent light and mood you've captured. Lovely colours and great POV. Well done.
Regards, Steve.

Hi Steve,
