[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
The stump of an old Juniper is slowly decaying and becomming one with the soil. All kinds of lichen, mosses and fungi will start their life here. Smaller animals and insects will use this trunk as a hiding place. Nothing in nature is wasted. Everything has its purpose. In fact, the the back of the photo you can see that almost all trees are damaged by the winter storm. This will give other plant life a new opportunity to grow.

Yet, another photo taken near the Archemerberg. This one is actually at the foot of the hill and is taken in same area as This photo. Just a different season where the color and the condition of the sky is the most obvious fact of the different season.

Hi Niek,
It´s incredible what I feel looking at your pic: it´s amazing to see that in that sad place (maybe because the weather) there can be so many ways of life. I really like the sensation that it gives, well done!

Hello Niek,

fine composition, the texture of the foreground is really nice, and it illustrates the point you have made in your note really well.

tfs,

Paul

Hoi Niek,
Groeten, Jacob

Cześć. Lubię takie miejsca i wiem jak trudno to dobrze sfotografować, a Tobie się udało.

Hi Niek

Anohter charming and moody picture taken at Archemerberg from you.
This, too, is terrific and also tells a nice story...just as you mentioned in your note.
The composition here is again a very strong point (just like in almost all of your shots) and it shows this interesting and somehow very beautiful truck in the FG and all his younger brothers or suns in the BG.
All the moss, lichen and fungi on it really give it some lovely colors, darwing attention very nicely to that segment of the shot.
The exposure is very well handled here and also all the details everywhere are nice and sharp, thatnks to the usage of a great DOF.
I see 1/5 and i don't see a "tripod" mentioned...did you start practicing for the sniper academy? :))

Cheers and TFS

Hello Niek,
Excellent colours. In fact creating quite a sad climat of this shot.
Anyway a very interesting landscape :-)
Best greetings,
Michal

Hi Niek,
A somber landscape scene. The winter sky and beautiful muted browns of the winter season are well shown here. Just enough green to show the life in this photo. Well composed and framed in the vertical format. Nice work!
Scott

Wonderful perspective here Niek! Nicely composed old stump with a reminder of the "living" in the background.

Great photo of how life goes on, always and always somehow. Great info and its a great photo. Great sharpness and nice color saturation. TFS

Thanks for your comments on my photo " Iceberg Ahead! Part two!" :o)

Hi Niek, splendid sad composition with wonderful light, beautiful delicate colors and great theme, very well done, ciao Silvio

Wow, what a difference a few months makes. All the colors are so completely different. Nice sharpness and foreground interest.

Hi Niek,
this something I have seen in a thousand places in a thousand different ways. The dead tree stump is an ecosystem unto itself.I have always found subject matter like this stump to be visually interesting and your photo is no exception.Good details and atmosphere make this picture grab my eye and DOF is very nice around the area of this stump.TFS Bob

Hello Niek,
That old stump has seen some years since the tree was cut!
Interesting details are captured in this landscape, seems like tha fallen trees by and large are left where they fall...
Good composition, nice sense of depth!
Greetings,
Pablo -

Hi Niek,
You've made a fairly ordinary scene quite dramatic with the wide-angle of the 10-20. Great detail, everything in focus and good contrast, it creates a moody shot (like those high-contrast urban images). I think if the sky was nice moody clouds this would look great in black and white. Nice work.
Cheers,
Adrian

Hi Niek

Wonderful textures and colour tones. The decaying juniper tree makes for wonderful FG detail. Excellent POV. The sky looks quite oppressive, it looks like it is about to rain.

Hello Niek,
I agree with Scott that somber is the right word here. Your note certainly makes a point with the image. Excellent technique all-around. But I particularly like the way you held the true colors, which help emanate this strange mood. Well done.
Best wishes,
Hakan
