Captured @ 400mm, handheld from a car in Tanzania's savannah on way to Serengeti.

The word "Cheetah" is derived from the Hindi word "Chita" meaning "spotted one". The Cheetah is the fastest land animal reaching speeds up to 70 mph or 112 km/h. Cheetahs have also been known to swim, although they do not like to. The Cheetah is not one of the Great Cats, because it does not have a floating Hyoid bone in its neck it can not roar, therefore it is a Lesser Cat. Cheetahs have been considered through out history to be a sleek and beautiful cat.
The cheetah has a slender, long-legged body with blunt semi-retractile claws. Its chest is deep and its waist is narrow.

The adult animal weighs from 40 to 65 kg (90 to 140 lb). Its total body length is from 112 to 135 cm (45 in to 55 in), while the tail can measure up to 84 cm (33 in). Male cheetahs are slightly larger than females and have a slightly bigger head, but it is difficult to tell males and females apart by appearance alone.

Hello Ralf

Excellent photo of this beautiful cat.
A great sighting.
Fantastic colour contrast with its background.
She looks very alert and her tail down pose seems to indicate that she is concentrating on something serious.
Great Photo.
