Nice first post Mike.
Nice composition and colours. I like the blue round the eye. This is not an easy one to get right exposure, white bird and black BG. It's overexposure but the head is good with good details.

This is a great photo for a first post!
the object is sharp and the BG is good.
The hot spot is not so good but I undertstand that it is hard to get a good picture with such a white thing!

Welcome to TN Mike. The shot is very interesting. The head (and escpecially the eye) is very good. The fodus on the eye is good and that's very important in nature shots. You did overexpose a large part of the bird though; featherdetail got burnt and got lost because of that. With white (or black) birds exposure is always difficult. Such white birds as Jan Van Genten (or Swans) are better shot on a cloudy day. TFS! And keep 'em coming!

To me, your composition is excellent, Mike. The diagonal of the bill adds to the artistic value. As already said, part of the white is overexposed, on the upper mandible and undeer the bill. Great first posting. I look forward to look at your next shots and to read your notes about the subjects and camera settings.

Mooie eerste foto! Je mag wel iets meer vertellen over de vogel zelf, daar gaat het ook een beetje om bij TN.. Mooie foto, mooie uitnsnede, jammer dat ie hier en daar wat overbelicht is.. Scherpte is heel goed... Mooie plaat, weet nu tenminste wat een Jan van Gent is.. Welkom op TN!

Excellent composition and artistic shot here Mike. The blue beak and eye are quite attractive against the white of his feathers. Very well done.

Excellent shot and well composed. The focus of the eye is spot on.
The exposure the white is O.E.
The w.s. is excellent though the eye is closer to the left on this one. Both work.

Beautiful portrait, Mike! Even this large overexposed area doesn't spoil the climat of the picture. I like the contrast and the eye - it makes a great colour accent in this otherwise nearly monochromatic picture. TFS! Michal
