*Hey guys, my friend Rick has helped me out here today! This is not a Little Blue Heron! It's a Green Heron, my gosh I never even heard of one of these. Sorry for the wrong identity! Apparently I have a thing for Herons and not just the little Blue! Hope your not mad, I'll do better. Thank You Rick :)*

So it appears I am a one trick pony these days! I was out on Sanibel Island this past Thursday, we took a day trip through the Ding Darling National Wildlife Preserve. Let me tell you I could get lost in there for days, it was beautiful and I have the sunburn to prove it!

Here I have yet another Little Blue Heron, from a different perspective. It amazes me that they have incredibly long necks that compact into this size for stealthy fishing. This was another friendly fellow that didn't mind me in the least. Look at the colours on him, they are absolutely my favorite birds to photograph! Plus they are hard to OE! LOL I really hope hat you like him. Today we are headed back to Six Mile for a hike and picnic lunch with the kids. Hope you all enjoy your day, look forward to checking in on you all when I return tonight.

Here is some info on Ding Darling National Wildlife Preserve.

The J. N. "Ding" Darling National Wildlife Refuge is located on the subtropical barrier island of Sanibel in the Gulf of Mexico. The refuge is part of the largest undeveloped mangrove ecosystem in the United States. It is world famous for its spectacular migratory bird populations. J. N. "Ding" Darling is one of over 540 refuges in the National Wildlife Refuge System administered by the U. S. Fish & Wildlife Service.

Hi Ange,
Been very busy getting ready for a couple Art shows I have coming up, so I just had time for a peek. I am envious! Wish I had been there. One of my very favorite places to go. This looks good. Very nice colors and detail in the heron This must be some mid-day sun, as it is pretty harsh. But your right, No OE in the bird!

Hello Ange,
Cudn't 've agreed with you more.
This is a reall handsome guy and you have got every details of him and the bright rock adds to the contrast.I like th eway he's standing perhaps ready to walk forward..one thing..I dont know whether am right or wrong here, but i do see some noise on the water front...i dont know much abt these things...perhaps u shud try the NeatImage software just for the noise reduction. One of the TN friends gave me the idea...worth a try.

TFS & Cheers

Hi Ange,
Your green heron is out of the water and so his neck compacted :) Nice plumage colors and details to appreciate in this closer look picture. Very well done and tfs.

Hi Ange,
Don't hate me but I need to correct you, this is actually a Green Heron, I noticed it looked quite different so I went looking here, http://www.floridanature.org/order.asp?order=Ciconiiformes And my suspections were correct. You take such great pride in your work and for good reason this is another excellent capture with amazing colors and razor sharp details in a beautiful composition. The good thing is you have another species to add to your list of captures if you do like I do. Hope the sunburn is not bothering you and you're having a great day at Six Mile.

Hi Angela,
Great image of this Little Blue Heron. The quality of the image is great and its colours show clearly. I am glad you enjoyed your day and am looking forward to seeing more of the images from it soon. Great composition.

Hello Angela

Oh that is a little beauty.Wonderful colour saturation. The legs and feet are awesome.Excellent eye detail,it seems so focused on something.A very good close up.These guys hang out where I go but are so darn fast.Nicely done.TFS

Hi Angela,
you should know that your postings of herons are just simply out of this world excellent and if they were all you were to post, you present them always in a wonderful light. The Green Heron is a real handsome looking bird and very colourful at that. You use your point and shoot very well even with an SLR camera there would not be much improvement over what you have done in this capture, simply wonderful and TFS.

Hello Angela,
One of the most difficult things of this Heron to photograph are the good colours. From a distance you don't see the details at all. But you did. Very beautiful. Good composition.
