[Note Guidelines] Photographer's Note
Hello everyone and thanks for all your kind words while I was laid up, I am on the mend and I returned to work yesterday. I captured this Swainsons Hawk just after a successful kill of a Richardson Ground Squirrel. I titled this Dangerous because he came so close to hitting the barbed wire fence and over the years I have had to deal with numerous birds of prey with broken wings for just that.

I WOULD LIKE TO THANK NIGEL (MERLIN) FOR STEERING ME STRAIGHT ON THIS HAWKS ID I HAD SAID IT WAS A FERRUGINOUS HAWK BUT IT IS TRULY A SWAINSONS HAWK. I HOPE YOU FORGIVE ME FOR THIS ERROR.

THANKS NIGEL

Hi Rick.
You managed to picture a very nice bird at interesting moment. The shot is composed and exposed excellently. Extremely blurred BG is wonderful as well as the exposure of the shot. My best wishes and TFS.

Hope you are well, Rick.
What an air of invincibility this bird carries in its posture with the prey under its talons!
Ferruginous Hawk, which I guess I'm seeing for the first time, is truly a royal bird.
This picture presents it in its glorious aspect.
Thanks for sharing this great picture.

Rick:
This is a very fine photograph, but I suggest that you review your ID - in particular, look at the feathering of the legs? It's certainly a Buteo, but it's not that one ;)
Regards, Nigel.

Hello Rick, :)

Wow, this is Awesome! I can only imagine how hard it must be to deal with broken wings on birds of prey :(.

This guy was fortunate, and has a full belly! Great sharpness, wonderful POV showing his gorgeous talons! Sweet!!!!!

Missed You, so glad to be back.

Hi Rick

What a magnificent capture! [of the hawk's, too, but especially yours :)]
This is indeed a fantastic shot because of its excellent timing and the fact that even the prey is so nicely visible! In such situations one can really asses how big and powerful those talons really are...especially compared to the size of the prey.
The details here are terrific and the DOF is impeccable - blurring the BG superbly.
Charming natural colors and good exposure, too.

Bravo and TFS

hi Rick,
je ne sais pas pourquoi mais nous nous sommes manqués depuis quelques temps, je rattrappe tout cela. L'image est le témoignage de la loi de la nature, la réalisation est extra. Magnifique spécimen, composition superbe.

Incredible catch. Its not easy to make a shot like this. You have to be there at the right moment. And..you succeeded!
