Long-Tailed Broadbill – Psarisomus dalhousiae
This is the seventh and final broadbill found in West Malaysia. It averages 25 cm in length. Its distinctive feature is a “monkey” face with a black crown of feathers that resembles hair on a head and yellow looking “ears”. The upper sides of the tail is blue but not well shown in this photo which unfortunately is just a record shot. The bird has a high pitched piercing whistle.
This shot was taken at Fraser’s Hill – Pahang, Malaysia and spotting it was difficult enough let alone photographing it. This is a shy bird and contrary to what the book says about it moving in flocks I have only seen it as an indivudual.

Habitat : Broadleaved evergreen jungles 500 – 2000m.

Exposure details : 1/80 f/8 EV0 Flash -3

Hello Phil,
Your series of the Broadbills were amazing. I believe it was not easy to make this recording.
But it's sharp and very clear. Good composition and POV.
Regards,
Peter

Hi Phil,
Sharp and beautiful bird.
I like the eye:-) and the great colours.
The busty compo in term of branches is not really distracting...
